I’m looking to buy some new whistles, but would really like to try out a few before I buy. I live in Scotland, and am wondering if anyone can advise me of any shops with a good selection of whistles to try please?
I’m looking for a high D, an A, and a low D and am a bit out of touch with what is about just now, so any advice would be much appreciated. For the high D and the A I wouldn’t want to pay more than £80, but obviously prepared for more for the low D.
What, we’ve got no advice for this nice new person, Kirsty from Scotland, who wants to join in the whistle fun? Edit: OK, just heard from Kirsty that he did receive some PMs about this from fellow Chiffers…sorry I doubted you guys!
Of course, I don’t know of any whistle shops in Scotland, except for the makers Alba and MK whistles. It’s hard many times to find small shops who carry any real assortment of whistles to try. But Big Whistle in England gives good service via mail order, and I wouldn’t hesitate to use them if I were you, as I’ve gotten good service from them even in the US. They do have a pretty large selection, and good prices.
And for ideas about what whistles, just do a lot of reading here on Chiff-you can use the search at the top right of the page, and ask more questions when you can’t find the answers using the search or in your reading.
Good luck in your quest-it’s worth it-these things are lots of fun. Just be warned, they are addictive!
They have a big selection of Shaws and Clarkes (my favourites!), and I think a few other good makes, lots of low whistles from what I remember.
Hope that’s of some help!
Lucy
Edited to add: I see you’re looking for an A, I have a Shaw A which I got from Scayles and I absolutely LOVE it, it’s my favourite whistle… I think it cost somewhere between £35 - £40…
