To Toronto tinwhistle players!!!!

Hello everyone!

I’m a silent observer on this message board (I think that this is probably the third message that I posted!)

I recently moved to Toronto (three weeks ago!) and was wondering if there were any tinwhistle players who also give lessons?? I’ve been playing for 6 months, and I’m not that great at the “learn on your own” method! What can I say, I’m a visual person!

If anyone can help me out, I would be extremely appreciative!!!

Thanks! Have a great day!

Heather

Isn’t Debby Quiggley in Toronto? She is by all accounts one of the best teachers you could hope to get. I also hear that there a number of fine sessions in Toronto for you to go listen to. If no one here knows about them, go to http://www.thesession.org and ask there (there’s at least two Toronto fiddlers there).

Hi. At least two of us on this group (me and Lizzie) take lessons from Karen Light in Toronto, a wonderful teacher. Email me if you want contact information for her. I’ve been playing for less than a year - maybe all of us relatively new TO players should try to get together sometime?

hey guys!!! Thanks for the Info!!! Myra, I’ve emailed you, so just waiting to hear back!

Take Care!
Heather

Cool! Some whistlers from my neck of the woods. I am an hour west of Toronto but haven’t found that many resouces in my immediate area yet. Keep in touch fellow Ontarions!

Is Henry Geraghty still playing around Toronto (pronounced as if written Garrity)? I knew him in the 80’s when he was with a band called Tip Splinter, then lost track of him. Please let me know if you’re aware of his existence.

SW Ontario cittern/bouzouki players have had one gathering in Cambridge a couple of years ago. Hammered dulcimer players are having a gathering in June. Maybe the whistle players could have a get together in some central location. There are a few in London.

Heather..I second Myra’s recommendation for Karen Light…she is a doll, and a great teacher and really knows her music. I have been taking lessons from her since last September.

Contact me by private email and perhaps we can talk about getting together.
I recently went to my first session, a ‘slow’ one. and I am going back again. Also love to go to Dora’s on a Sunday night to hear the real session players.

Are you aware of the Celtic College program this summer?

Liz

Thanks for all the response guys!!! I don’t feel so alone now

Lizzie, I’ve emailed you  I was already talking to Myra, and she gave me Karen’s email!

We should definately all get together! I’m up for it!!!

Take care!
Heather
