Ok, so i want to be able to play this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHbpdt8v794&feature=related
In that exact key and everything!!!
But im so confused, there are so many brands of tin whistles, and keys and everything…Does anyone know what brand the whistle in the video is, and what key???
Here are the one’s i am looking at buying. Will they be able to play this song in this tune???
The guy in the video was playing that tune on a high D whistle. Any high whistle in D would do you, so, yes, both of the ones you link to would be fine.
If you are looking at the Walton whistles I would get the one with the bigger bore which is the Walton Mellow D. Now, since you are looking on ebay look for Jerry Freeman tweaked Generation “D” whistles such as his Gen Brass “D” or his Mellow Dog “D” whistle…a real good player and they sound great. Good Luck! PS: I forgot one…a Dixon Trad Brass whistle key of “D” a great whistle and in the same price range as the others…
Really, everyone has different opinions about inexpensive whistles. To me, the sound quality and playability on all of them are about the same. If you’re only planning on playing a couple of songs just for fun, than get a whistle that LOOKS the best to you, or is the best price. However, I really hope you find the tin whistle to be very enjoyable. As a person with severe WhOA disorder, I can honestly say that I was hooked on tin whistle instantly. I still am. Be careful, whistles are addictive.
addictive…yes! Sound, they all have their own sound to my ears for what that’s worth. my Walton does not sound like my Freeman tweaked Gens and his Freeman Blackbird whistles are different from the generation tweaked whistles. The only Whistle I have that is stock that sounds close to a Freeman tweaked Gen is My Clare “D” whistle. This is of course JMHO Now, as to how they play! Jerry Freeman tweaked whistles and the Clare are the best players and sound and I must add the Dixon Trad brass “D” whistle to this group as well again, JMHO…
