A Milford man remained jailed Wednesday on charges he raped and physically assaulted a 7-week-old girl. Joseph Warner Sorah, 34, was charged with rape and child endangering after doctors at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital determined the baby had been assaulted. Police Chief Mark Machan said two women flagged down an officer at a city event Friday when the baby began vomiting. The officer noticed unusual bruises and abrasions and asked Children’s Hospital medical staff to fully examine the baby. Some of her injuries were consistent with shaken baby syndrome, the chief said. The baby remains in Children’s Hospital. Police arrested Sorah on Tuesday. He appeared Wednesday for arraignment in Clermont County Municipal Court and is scheduled to appear again June 15 for a hearing to determine whether there is enough evidence to take the case to trial.
Anybody would be sickened by this Missy but did you have to post it here? If we all start posting everything appalling we read or hear about, what kind of place will this turn into?
sorry Steve - I didn’t know there were restrictions on what can be posted or not posted. I’ve read many things posted on here that people are upset about (war, animal abuse, etc.etc.) , and this story upset me.
No disrespect to Missy - I think she is really cool - but I have been thinking the same thing as Steve here although I can understand a persons need to share their outrage at such an horrific event.It is after all,human nature to turn towards our friends during times of outrage and shock and thus lighten the burden of despair that comes with such news.
Separate point Missy - the report doesn’t mention that the accused is the child’s father. Where did you get that from? I ask simply because giving information which might lead to the identification of the child would never be allowed in the UK. Indeed in cases such as this the accused is never named to protect the victim’s privacy. The exception, of course, are those cases where the victim does not survive.
jbarter - it’s been all over the radio since yesterday. There was an interview with the child’s mother (who states she had no idea this was happening, and how extremely upset she is) and the radio is also saying that as soon as the child is released from the hospital, she will be placed into the foster care system.
Our papers are a little bizarre. For instance, a 16 year old recently beat his 17 year old brother to death. The victim’s name was published. The victim’s parents’ names were published, along with a picture of his mother getting out of her car in front of their home - where it happened. But because it hasn’t been decided if the 16 year old will be charged as a juvenile or adult, HIS name has not been published. It doesn’t take much to figure out his name, however…

My parents used to be a emergency foster parents (i.e., they were the people called when a child had to be removed from a home immediately for its own safety), and I’m afraid we saw more of this sort of thing than anyone could imagine might happen. There are some truly evil people out there, I’m afraid.
It is sad to read about this sort of thing, but perhaps it is good to exercise our sense of outrage and disgust. If Missy or anyone else wants to post something here that moves them in that way, I think that we should accept it. Sharing the feelings with, and getting feedback from, a group helps define the limits of acceptable behavior and define the group.
Yeah, it’s a downer to be reminded that there are some sick people out there, but if someone needs to unload then that’s one of the things this forum is here for (IMHO). And any thread can be left unread if it makes someone uncomfortable.
A year or so ago a man was arrested in a town near SLC for sexually assaulting his infant granddaughter. The evidence? He videotaped it.
There are some truly horrific things that happen in the world. I share your shock and disgust, Missy.
Missy: I don’t see anything wrong with your post, at all. If folks want a respite from the evils and wrongdoings of the world, they shouldn’t be looking here, anyway. All sort of horrible things are posted here, talk of the Tsunami, war, death, famine. Those sort of posts are done all the time. Sure, your is a bit more visceral, as has been mentioned, but still- there are no restrictions for that sort of thing as far as I know, and you have a right to post them.
