The Virtues of the Generation F and G Whistles

I still don’t have a G, but i acquired an F in a trade here last year, and i too think it’s a lovely whistle.

After reading through this thread I got my F and G brass and my F and G nickel down to play. Three of the whistles have not been tweaked in any way. They all play very well. The brass G sounds nicer than the nickel G but the Nickel F sounds nicer than the Brass F, i.e. the sound I like. I should probably play them more than I do. The Ebs are outstanding.

Crap! Now I have to get a brass G! On Nickel G at first I thought it was too easy to break into the upper register, but then I realized that it required so little air that I was overblowing. After that, I caught on and it is a great whistle. It takes so little air you can get beautiful 8-measure phrases out of it. Anyway, if brass is better, well yeah I want one now.

I’ve got one brass G, two brass F’s (one of them was formerly my Favorite Whistle Ever, but the mouthpiece cracked and now it sounds icky), and a nickel F.

I don’t use the G much. I have small fingers and can play it, but anything too far into the second octave gives me fits. I do like the F’s a lot and I agree that they seem to be the most consistantly good out of the Generation line.
