So do you think this credit crunch, recession thingy is going to have much effect on the world of piping?
There does seem to be an increase in the amount of second hand pipes being sold or is that just coincidence, either way its good for those looking for pipes.
If money gets tight will some pipemakers start to see orders being cancelled and maybe go out of business ?
Will some young wannabe piper who has to get his parents to buy his practice set be told to take up the bodhran instead ?
I hope there will be no noticeable effect at all ,fingers crossed.
Well, there has to be some sort of effect, and we´re probably yet to see how long will the recession be around.
I believe that people will buy the pipes occasionally (because the people who buy pipes have enough money to buy elementary things), but for some pipemakers, delay can be a bad problem…we shall see.
For me it is already having an effect. I wanted to place an order for a set of pipes this quarter but due to the fall in the Aussie dollar against the Euro it is now out of my reach for the moment. IMHO it will have a bit effect on piping as pipes are a discretionary item.
I think a recession is going to be bad for everybody. Heck I just started my pipers club four months ago and already I’ve got members being layed off, and I’ve got pipe makers contacting me, because instruments are ready for shipping to people who can’t afford to pay for them because they’ve been layed off. It’s not going to be the end of the world, but I know it’s going to be tight times. pipes are certianly not the focus when you’re afraid you might loose your house. but in the end it’s all going to work out. the key is sticking together and helping eachother through the hard times. music lifts the spirt and frees the sole… it’s good for everyone. even if you’re not good at it yet.

Maybe you could forward me the offers from these pipemakers? I’m seriously searching for a full set before the crisis affects my bank account.. Please send me a pm.
One possible good effect could be that all those lapsed pipers who have Wooff sets under their bed or in the loft may be tempted to put them on the market due to a diminishing bank balance.
