I was just on the Uilleann pipes obsession site , and it seem´s like so many pipes are for sale. Is it the down turn in the economy .

Don’t know what I’m missing but I don’t get it?
On U-obsession there are:
4 - Full set’s, 1 - half set, 1 - practise set and 3 chanters for sale.
On NPU classifieds there are:
2 - full sets, 1 half set and 1 chanter for sale.
Considering the global increase of people starting to play Uillean pipes this last decade I’m surprised that there are so few of these sets for sale, especially practise sets.
As most makers with a bit of reputation also seem to have their order books filled, I guess that once bought these things are hard to part with and thats why we see so few of them turn up on the classifieds.

Everybody must be giving up on the uilleann pipes and switching over to the simple life playing the bodhran and GHBs. ![]()
I must be bucking the trend then.

The really annoying ones are switching to box or banjo. ![]()

What is it in your case djm, box?, or banjo?.
David
Worse! Jaw harp!

For what it’s worth, I have a set on order with CJ Dixon (my first set) and I have every intention of putting it to good use once it arrives next year.
Yes, the economy is starting to look ugly, but we still showed growth during the last two quarters, so we can’t officially call it a recession yet. My hope is that the worst of the foreclosures and ARM loans are behind us, but hey, no reason to get bummed out when we still have our music! ![]()
My two optimistic cents…
Matt
So Matt- you should come and visit us at the so cal uilleann pipers club since you live in L.A.
fel
I may have to do that indeed! I have heard of that particular piper’s club, as a friend of mine I believe attended it for awhile. Cheers for the invite, see you next Summer… LOL.
In the meantime, will have to keep the dust off of my GHB. Ever since I left my pipe band (due to moving far away from it) I have a helluva time staying on top of practicing. Well, that and I have a 5 month old to take good care of… ![]()

DJM, last Saturday night, a very attrctive women gave me a jaws harp at a party, I didn’t know how to take, but I played Turkey In the Straw on it and she seemed impressed

Ah yes, we all started with good intentions…
Tansy, glad you had a good time in the straw, but did you play the jaws harp at all?
djm
Without intentions there would not be any degrees of success with which to measure! ![]()

despite the fact that there are a few sets of pipes for sale, they all seemed to be eventually purchased. there still seems to be many people wanting to upgrade and in addition, a fair amount of newbies seizing the opportunity to get a good instrument.
That’s a very good sign!
