The latest tune to drive me nuts

I’ve probably mentioned before: every single morning I wake up with a tune going through my head. It’s almost always a different tune every day.

Today’s rendition is as follows. It’s very slow, and I have a feeling it must be a song. Scottish, I reckon:

X:1
T:
M:3/4
R:Slow air
K:G
dB | G2 FG EC | D4 (3DEF | G3A Bc | A2d3B |
G2 FG EC | D4 (3DEF | GB E2 AF | D2 G2 ||

Anybody any clue? I’m going to link from the Whistle Forum as well, as there are some knowledgeable people, some of whom are in Scotland :poke: around thereabouts …

It’s The Lark In The Clear Air. I know it from the lovely Cara Dillon (short excerpt here http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005HSMLSE/ref=dm_mu_dp_trk5) but many other versions are available.

Neither Cara, the song, not indeed I, are Scottish, but I hope this solves the ear-worm for you!

Thanks Steve and Davy. That was lovely. I wonder why I have a slightly different version of the tune. I know I’ve known it for a very long time. Do you know the origin of the air, Steve?

Such gorgeous singing.

Your version is what I am familiar with. http://www.folknortheast.com/learn/discography maybe ?

Ah. Billy Pigg. Could be. I think I’ve known the tune all my life. But I may well have heard Billy Pigg playing the tune in the days skulking around the archives in the basement of Peter Kennedy’s house.

… brings back memories - me listening to track after track; Peter bustling about and every now and then thrusting some weird instrument into my hands. Great days.

Found it now. This is what led my brain in that direction http://www.folknortheast.com/radio-farne/radio-farne/programme-seven The mp3 link opens in Windows Media Player, then you can chose the track.

Thanks for finding that David. Some really wonderful stuff in there.

Wow thanks for that David - I’m a great admirer of John Doonan and hadn’t heard this one before, and the combination with Billy Pigg and Foster Charlton is just excellent.

Ain’t it just!

Second!!
