Today I saw two records by The Irish Rovers. One was Unicorn, and I don’t remember the title of the other. They cost $3 each. Anybody heard these? Is there any whistle music on them? Are they perhaps incredibly valuable collectible I should purchase ASAP?
The Irish Rovers were a Clancy Brothers -type ballad band that played a lot in Canada in the 1970s - very cliché. A bit of whistle. They were a one-hit wonder with the song The Unicorn, if you’re old enough to remember that one.

They’re still around – we went to see the the Irish Descendents open for them in… hmmm, summer 2002? Didn’t stick around for more than a song or two of the Rovers’. (But I think the rest of the crowd were there to see the Rovers and had no clue who the weirdos from Newfoundland were.)
The Rovers did the Bricklayer’s Song, too, didn’t they?
I think I’ve heard them, they were good.
They’re fun, but don’t expect to find yourself on Antiques Roadshow.
There is a special corner in hell reserved for the Rovers for that awful “Unicorn” song.
