Has anyone actually purchased one of the Guinness logo whistles from the Guinness website? I would be very interested in knowing if they are of comparable quality to similarly priced whistles or if they are in any way different (in tonality, volume, etc.) Thanks guys.
P.S.
these things rule.
I’ve never played one but here is some information on it provided by the C&F website:
Walton’s Guiness D $10-12. This whistle is precisely the same as the (Walton’s) Little Black Whistle, except it has a cream-colored fipple and is packed in a gift box. It’s higher priced than the LBW, and I can see no reason to buy one as long as LBWs are available. It does, on the other hand, come with a fold out paper with the music to several tunes. Unless you are a collector, there’s just no reason to buy one of these at the higher price, as compared to the LBW.
I bought a Guiness about a year ago and it was a big disappointment - basically unplayable. I don’t remember a lot of specifics about it. As I recall it was terribly out of tune. It was my first choice for a tweaking experiment which then went awry…no great loss. I may have just gotten a bad one, but I came to the conclusion that you’re paying for the logo.

I’ve owned two of them and they were both junk. That’s really sad, too, because if memory serves they are made by Walton, who also makes one of my favorite cheapies, the Mellow D.

Mack says:
" I have that Guiness now–the barrel anyway. It has a white mouthpiece with the water pipe logo still in tact and the Guiness logo is, too. A picture is available if you email. It’s nickname is ‘Black and White’ and it plays right nicely".
So Susan, it wasn’t a loss at all for it didn’t really go awry, it was rescued!

I have one…it was a gift. Mine is rather a nice little whistle…it has a cheerful, somewhat growly tone that I find appealing. It is very light in weight and would seem to be rather fragile…it’s definitely not one I would carry in my back pocket…but it’s a fun little whistle nonetheless.
If I were going to be buying, however, I might not pop the extra cash for the Guinness logo and white mouthpiece. If I understand correctly, this is basically the “Little Black” whistle packaged for Guinness, and costs quite a bit more than the regular “Little Black.”

I had one temporarily before giving it away as a gift. It played OK, as good as the LBW, though I’m not really keen on the LBW either.
You’re better off buying a pint of Guiness and some other whistle IMHO.
I’ve also got one, and I’ve got the LBW, there’s a tiny pinhole in the back of the LBW for some reason but it sounds better than the guiness whistle, I’m not sure exactly why
I had one and it got crushed when I was moving apartments. Luckily I could bend it back without too much damage as it is thin aluminum. But, the whistle still has a sharp low d and I actually put the whistle head on my generation D whistle, I like how much air I have to put into the guiness whistle head. I actually use this frankenwhistle quite a bit.
But I’d say get something else.
