I just got one today, from http://www.celticreader.com selling it on eBay, and straight out of the box, the head was noticeably misaligned, and it sounded like hell. A little hot water and a vigorous twist solved it, but it’s something to watch out for if you just can’t resist the Guinness logo.
And it still doesn’t sound as nice as my green Sweetone.
Gee, sorry you guys had so much trouble with your whistles. Right out of the box, mine was a dream come true. Guess Waltons doesn’t have much better quality control than that “other” one. You might look up my review of the GBW I did recently
My Guiness was a big disappointment - most of the notes seem flat, but a few others even sound sharp! Too bad because I like the feel of it and the overall sound - but I do prefer my notes somewhere near correct.
My first Whistle (Ha. That sounds funny, considering I’ve been whistling for less than a month!) was a Walton, and I really wasn’t all that impressed with it. My favorite whistle so far is the Clare, followed by my Clarke Celtic whistle (Just a Sweetone with a nifty design on it.)For some reason, I could never get the Walton to sound good in the upper octave.
In the Scoiltrad whistle lessons, it looks like Conal O’Grada is playing a Waltons, though I couldn’t tell rather it was the regular or the wide-bore model.
I have a walton’s mellow D and it wasn’t very good at first, but then I tried the guitar-pick tweak and now it’s really nice. Actually, I’ve tweaked all my whistles that way.
