I have to admit, I wasn’t particularly blown away by this stuff–and I’m seriously one of Fred’s biggest fans…
Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure there would be a way to get Chick Corea-inspired keyboards and uilleann pipes to go together in a musically worthwhile way, but I don’t think this is it. All of the musicians are undisputedly very talented but they’ve painted themselves in this corner of trying to cross jazz-fusion backing with semi-improvised tunes and it just sounds very boring and unfocused to my ear.
Damn, I’m too young to go all curmudgeonly…
