surprise!

Ok, so it’s not easy to fool your teenagers. I’ve been watching a good many old movies lately. Many that star a particular actor. A safe crush to have, seeing as how he’s been dead for 50 years. Still, I laughed for 5 minutes when my 17 year old, whose part time job is at a toy store, gave me this in a lovely wrapped box for my birthday yesterday:
(the fact that he would be 4" tall if he stood up notwithstanding)

So, you like guys with beards and English-ish accents?

Tell me, what’s your policy on eighteen-button gloves?

I prefer they be taken off.

Curses, woman! I can’t make up my mind, now!

Just think of how fetching you’d look playing your fiddle in them, though!

Was Erol actually English? Or was his accent of that lovely generic “golden years of Hollywood” variety? I think I’ve said before that I agree he was handsome…although not as handsome as Cary Grant

Born in Tasmania, actually.

Ah…you see, Cary was born in Bristol. So his accent was at least authentic

I had forgotten to add that the picture was fantastic. Isn’t it fun when our children know these things about us? Mine love to tell me when a Colin Farrell movie is on, and then proceed to tell me that it’s more than likely a movie where he’s donning an American accent (which would be about 90% of his movies). Kids know too much, as far as I’m concerned. :stuck_out_tongue:

and

Beard, English accent, short. Well hello.

Did you miss the 4" part, JB? You hit a growth spurt or something?

:smiling_imp:

Not that safe! Mom has a crush on him too. She’s 89 but one of her knees is almost new. You could probably take her

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

He looks like a meerkat startled by a hedgehog altercation that is too close for comfort.

Mukade

Don’t you just hate when your sweeping vista in the background refuses to lie flat?

djm

Yes about the sweeping vista.

About the meerkat look:
He’s George Custer, see. And he has this semi-crazed look that comes from being a recovered alcoholic with an insatiable ambition who knows that he’s about to sacrifice himself gloriously as the only possible response to backstabbing, betrayal, and horrific social injustice. Got that?
(forget history. not important here.)
By the way, who can name the jig which figures prominently as the 7th Cavalry’s galvanizing fight tune?

here are some better ones:

That was the crazed look of Custer. This one’s the crazed look of Errol Flynn.

Not properly swept, I’d say. His hands look very odd. In fact, it’s an uncertain picture entirely.

What the… who said that?

You’d feel that way too if your job had just required you to swing a fake dead deer at a bunch of people.

That’s “Garry Owen” and it actually was Custer’s favorite tune.

Susan

He’ll fire your bow…

Hi ladies

My Mum had a crush on John Barrowman, the look on her faceless was priceless when we told her he was gay. She was crestfallen.

Strange. If someone told me some of the actresses I like are gay I’d probably like them even more

Quite so. But let’s not go and get all historically accurate now!

Really? I could have sworn it was “The Irish Washerwoman.” :astonished:
