Hi all. I am in the market for a Delrin ‘C’ flute. I would appreciate any suggestions regarding makers. I have contacted Rob F. and he is not presently making ‘C’ flutes. Oh, I would like a Pratten design if possible. Thanks, Arbo.
I’m still trying to get the man to make me an Eb – no queue-jumping! ![]()
FWIW, David Copley makes a very nice wooden C, and now he’s making Delrin Ds, so … ?
Cat, as it turns out, Rob told me he had been approached by several others to make a ‘C’ flute. Get in line!

p.s. How was the N.E.?
Hey, there! That’s it, I’m mad now and will never say anything nice about him or his flutes ever, ever, ever again and that will really affect a lot of peoples’ opinions of him. BIG ![]()
Seriously, I was thinking SOMEONE could make a nice bit producing Delrin alternate-keyed flutes – I mean, unless you’re a gigging player who works in lots of keys, do you really want to spend $1000 on a keyless C, Bb, E, F, G or whatever? And if you could get a Delrin one as nice as a Forbes, would you really need to?
(Rob, are you listening? Rob? ROB???)
VT was grand. Some fine livestock and good horse-pull action (I’m into such things) at the Champlain Valley Fair, shiver-inducing Bulgarian, Georgian and other a capella singing in St. Johnsbury, sugar on snow at a neighbor’s place, lots of walks and FOOD!, and some truly brilliant music and lovely people – couldn’t ask for more. Well, then again, I suppose I could – it would have been great to catch up with you and Gordon, too! ![]()
But perhaps next year, eh? Are you up there most of the summer?
P.S.S.S.T. … Arbo, check Springrobin’s thread. She’s got a C Sweetheart for $200 …
When I emailed R. Forbes a couple weeks ago he said an Eb corps de rechange was first on the list of alternative pitches.
I’d second the D. Copley recommendation. If he’s go the reamers and the delrin… Unless he prefers to use different reamers on delrin. Rumor has it delrin is not as nice to turn as wood.
Oooh goody goody goody, he didn’t forget! ![]()
And if it does come time to buy a C, me, I liked David’s a LOT. His F is bonaroo, too!
Hey! I’ve got a C Sweetheart (No. 3xxx), in a drop dead gorgeous tiger stripe maple (from tip to toe), and a fine player it is, but I paid more than that, years ago.
Go for it!
Disclaimer: I’m a Sweetheart fan, unabashedly, and for all the right reasons.
