I took a generation head off the the tube and found when I put it back on it it slides around too much to stay in tune. Anyone have any ideas of something I could put on the tube to keep it from straying once I find the spot I want? Right now it just wanders. I have decades of experience with various whistles from the highest to the lowest end and never ran into this particular issue before. Thanks in advance.
I’ve heard of people winding string around the head to tighten it onto the body.
Have you tried PTFE (plumber’s tape)? As you probably know, some whistle makers use it on tuning slides on alloy whistles to make the fit tighter, but I can’t see why it wouldn’t work with plastic heads on brass tubing.
I have a couple whistles where the head is just a tiny bit loose, not enough gap for hemp or Teflon tape. I have a piece of Gaffers’ tape holding the head where it needs to be.
