Has anyone recently received a Laughing Whistle they ordered from Noah Herbison? I started a thread a couple weeks ago about waiting for mine. I received an ETA date from Noah that is now a week overdue. One member replied about having ordered back in July and still no whistle. Did you get yours yet? I was told there were five whistles ahead of me and I ordered as late as the beginning of Nov. I’m trying to verify how many might truly be ahead of me and if I should request a refund–Noah cashed my check as soon as it was received.
Don’t panic yet =) I just emailed about mine, will let you know the reply.
Mine shipped from Canada to the USA on Wednesday, and I should get it in a few days according to tonight’s email.
Got mine today. Been waiting since last August. It is beautiful. He shipped last Wednesday.
Got mine today too. It is gorgeous. I am having trouble fingering Cnat as OXXOOO, though, are you?
I was reading the “ADLER HEINRICH wood whistle” thread and tried the OXXXXO fingering it mentioned, and that seems to work. I’d still like to know if this is a standard feature though.

If you're asking whether the OXXXXO cnat is a standard feature of the Heinrich / Gael / Weltmeister whistle, I believe the answer is yes. At least, I have found this to be true, and if I remember correctly, it is the fingering (OXXXXXO) that is printed on the insert.

Sorry, I meant I was wondering if OXXXXO was a standard fingering of cnat for the laughing whistle.
I recieved mine today yay! I ordered in september.
I love it…love the tone, love the look. It was definitely worth the wait.
Now I have a question…how far does it telescope down to? I’ve been playing but I don’t want to damage it by trying too far…I see there are grooves to make sure it’s extended to the right point…but nothing to tell me how far NOT to push.
Someone look at theirs and tell me so I don’t hurt it ![]()

I just received an email from Noah. He sent my whistle “quite a while ago” to the correct address. Apparently either the Canadian or US snail mail gobbled it up. He says he will send another as soon as he can. Which I feel is more than generous, since the lost whistle wasn’t caused by his neglect. Now that I have told all of Chiff and Fippledom, I shall tell him, too.

Hey Lori -
About 6.25 inches, roughly. The holes are covered on the lowest piece but not on the middle piece.
Don’t push it in too far…I lost the lower piece inside the thing and had to remove the head grin
Does your Cnat sound okay on yours? How do you finger it?

Ornamentation suggestions are welcome!

Beth,
That’s a pretty sounding whistle–and you made it sound very pretty! Thanks!

Ok, I have mine telescoped down till the holes are hidden on the bottom, and 2 holes remain on the middle piece but they are closed because of the bottom piece underneath, Is that right?? I found it folded different depending on which I pushed in first…middle or bottom.
No, C nat sounds funky on mine…I tried playing with the mouthpiece to adjust but it’s still “off”…it’s a wee sharp…I can handle it if I slightly underblow…but still. Alternate fingering work for you?

Really? Which works best?

More or less. Mostly less. OXXXXO works if I am very careful - it’s not a strong note and tends to crack. I’ll have to learn to half hole I guess. Noah suggested OXXOXO but it doesn’t sound any different to me.
It’s too bad about that note…otherwise this whistle would be near to perfect. =) It’s still one of my favorites.

I was the lucky winner of the Laughing Whistle in the Great Whistle Give-Away a few weeks ago and I gotta say I love the thing. It is so pure and clear sounding without a bit of shrillness. I can practice on it anywhere and have yet to get a complaint from others in the family. I’ve used different fingering on Cnat but just cause of the tune, not the sound, mine seems ok and in tune either way, but, mine does want to sound more than one octave simultanously on the second octave higher(A and up) Any suggestions?
