Spam: An idle question.

I very rarely get any Spam sent to my Mail accounts. Filters and Norton seem to keep me safe from all that stuff.

What I do get is Spam that is not addressed to my account but to accounts that bear no resemblance to my address at all. This happens in Hotmail and Gmail alike.

I was just wondering, not for the first time, how can something not addressed to me, Spam at that, get into my inbox when the stuff that would be addressed to me does not?

BCC (Blind Carbon Copy)
Check your email you should have:
To:
CC:
BCC:

The BCC list can not be seen by the To and CC lists.

So do I disable the BCC thing then or what?

Geekery is not my strongpoint..

I suppose you could make a filter that states the To: line must have your email addy in it to get to your inbox, but that would possibly cut out any newsletters you receive and any mass emails from friends/relations. Though that wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing..

In outlook you can create a filter that does whatever to any incoming email that is not To: you and not CC: You
Thunderbird’s filter doesn’t provide that functionality.

I’m behind Ava…

Except ones that are newletters that you name…

That would be an idea…
I’ll have a dabble around later on.

Thanks for the help.

just a word of warning…

Especially when I’m doing ā€œimportantā€ mailing (such as ones at work to users of our program, or ones at home to our Citizens on Patrol group) I always send the email to myself, and bcc all the other recipients. That way, someone doesn’t have a copy of MY addresses that I email these things to, and can only send back to me, instead of sending something back to everyone on the original email. It also means they can’t forward everyone’s address to someone else who might spam every entry.

So - if you DO decide to filter on bcc, make sure you are still letting any important emailing through.
