I met him in 2006 at Saint Chartier and camped with him… (edited by moderator). So, in May of 2007 I ordered a 4 regulator set in snakewood. I was told that a spot had become available in the waiting list and he could complete them the following month so I could pick it up. I obviously knew it would take longer, but still ordered them anyways. Now 3 years multiple excuses, and lots of emails that are not replied to, I have no pipes and he has about $3,900(980 pounds, and $2,415.15 worth of mammoth ivory I ordered for him) of my money. I sent him my wire details hoping for a refund, no response. So, a word of warning if you want to deal with this fellow. He’s a great guy, but not good on the business end. Sorry to put a black eye like this on the forum, but people need to know stuff like this.

I’m hoping the moderator can be kind if enough to lock this post. I really want people to be aware of what could happen if you order from him. It seems only fair to do so.
I would also like to add a personal story regarding Chris Bayley to let potential buyers know that there’s more than just one person to fall victim with Chris Bayley’s business practices.
My father commissioned Chris in 2004 for a 4 Regulator, Taylor style “D” set in Ebony and CITES ivory. At that time, Chris stated that he was in the process of making the transition from a part time pipe maker to a full time pipe maker, and was excited to handle more orders. My father gave Chris his normal deposit of 500 UK Pounds with a total payment upon receiving the pipes which Chris stated it would take between 2-3 years.
Over 6 years later and several e-mails and personal phone calls inquiring of any updates to the progress of the set had little to no results. Chris has been very kind in taking phone calls but fell short of any/all promises he had made. Chris has stated many times that he was going to send pictures of the set’s progression, but never has.
Last year; several phone calls and e-mails later, Chris stated that the set had finally been completed and that he was adjusting the regulator reeds before payment and shipment. My father asked Chris again if he could send photos, which he said he would, but did not. He also stated that he was also going to make a double chanter for my father’s patience and trouble, which my father stated that he just wanted the set he ordered and nothing more.
To this day, my father has not been sent any photographs or any indication on when the pipes will be officially completed and ready for shipment. Chris stated over a year ago that the set has been completed but has not notified my father for payment and shipment.
My story like O_Gaiteiro_do_Chicago’s story is not intended to attack Chris Bayley. It is merely a warning to potential Bayley customers.
O_Gaiteiro_do_Chicago; check your pm’s and we can work together to get this matter sorted out diplomatically.
Moderators; please lock this thread to avoid any “bashing” from matters of opinion.
