Yes it was very amusing, what happened today. I was at my school were I study music and I had my lovely M&E R&R with me. We had a lesson in music theory and there was this good looking girl in her twenties (probably a teacher student) sitting there at the desk. I walked in together with a few friends and since the main teacher hadn’t arrived yet I played a tune on my flute. I could see the womans eyes widen and when I had finished she asked me what it was I was holding. “It’s a traditional Irish flute” I said and she emidiately wanted to try it out. Ofcourse I let her do that and she walked over, full of confidence and I could see that she could handle a flute by the way she held the instrument, at least she could handle the Boehm flute. I asked her if she was a left hander, because I had turned the head section to fit my leftie playing. She said “No, but I’m a flutist”. And alas, she couldn’t get a sound out of the thing. I felt a bit sorry for her and said that I’ve heard that the teqnicue is quite different and I could probably not get a sound out of a modern orchestral flute. She fetched her flute and gave it to me to have a go and to my great surprice I could get a solid tone right from the beginning 
. I think her issue was more in the fingers than embouchure, because she managed to get a tone from my flute without covering any holes after a while, she just couldn’t seal the holes properly and that got her really frustrated. Later I heard her play her flute, and belive me mates, she was skilled, probably not more than a 100 times more skilled than me, but anyway . She had a slight look of humiliation in her face later and that was just what I needed after hearing that girl play what she did best.
I’ve had that happen before. Boehm flute players tend to get a bit freaked out, too, when you point out (and demonstrate) that trad note articulation is in general done by fingering (cuts, taps, rolls, etc.) than by tongueing.
At a session a Boehm fluter came up to me and mentioned how glad he was to know that I was “doing triple-tongueing”…whatever that is. Guessing he meant rolls, I said, “Do you mean this?” and did a couple of G rolls. He walked away rather quickly.

Triple tongueing involves articulating with your tongue, at the back of your throat, and with the tongue again ( like you’re saying “ta-ka-ta”). Brian Finnegan’s playing is full of it.[/quote]
