I was reviving my embouchure today on my Cochran 5000 series Rudall in delrin (plain rings). After playing a while I found I could make cool noises with it by adjusting my lips. What more do you want?

How much higher is the density of delrin compared to blackwood anyway? Of the three keyless tooters I have now; a delrin Jon C, delrin Paddy Ward and blackwood Copley, the Copley is the heaviest. My old delrin Seery wasn’t heavy at all either, but I don’t know the exact weight of it. With two flutes by the same maker, identical except for the material, how much weight difference are we really talking about?

I think that’s a fair question…

I too, would like to hear the answer
I have played the random delrin flutes, and didn’t find them “significantly” heavier than blackwood, at least, nothing that I would put down and say :Whew, that’s heavy…

Sometimes, it’s all about how well balanced it is. My Hammy Hamilton 6-key (blackwood) is 13 ounces (note that’s with keys). My Seery in Delrin (keyless) is also 13 ounces. I don’t know what a Copley keyless weighs. Jon C. has shown me a thin wall Delrin flute that seemed pretty light, but I don’t know what wall thickness he generally uses, and what that might weigh in at. Also, the profile (bore and outer wall) is different between Rudall and Pratten models. I think that I have found Rudalls to be thinner overall, feeling smaller in my hands.
