Hi Denny,
Never been there in the spring, you can see the high water mark, and the giant trees that were washed down the stream. Must be something to see.
The Tyoga Pass had just opened a couple of weeks before we went camping, a lot of snow this year.
A friend has a family cabin in the Aspin Valley, It was built in 1935. So we shared 20 miles of forest with about 6 people.
Oh, I see you dropped Kevin’s Seery in the water? Were you able to get it back?
I can’t even begin to tell you how I envy you right now. It’s been close to 100 degrees with humidity of 40% to 70% (40% at the hottest part of the day) and they’re saying we will break 100 for the next three days. I wanna go somewhere where it’s cool! And, I can bring my delrin flute, too.
and humidity? what’s that?
after 5 straight 100+ degree days here in Denver, a little humidity would be nice…but it’s usually only 30% humidity when it’s raining.
My own Jon C Delrin is just coming back from Lapland… Two weeks hiking in the mountains, with rain, 5 to 15° (centigrades, sorry), no night at all, billions of mosquitos… I love Sweden.
Great tour, and great camping flute! Perfect for playing in a cold night near the campfire.

Nope, I got my Seery back BEFORE Jon went camping.
That’s his new Rudall-style experiment in Delrin. Looks like you had a nice trip, Jon, welcome back.

It was tempting to just take his…
My own creation…

The problem with going to Yosemite for nine days, living outdoors and swimming in those nice cold streams is COMING HOME!

Hi Matt,
That sounds like a nice trip, especially the mosquitos! > > The mosquitos were in abundance at Yosemite. I slept outside in one of those little screen room tents, that are made in China (like everything else that we get) it’s frame is spring steel hoops, it sets itself up, boing! It was nice to foil the mosquitos plans, sitting in there watching them try to get in… > > I had a 3’ centapede drill in one night, luckily I saw him before I went to bed, he would have been inches from my pillow! (collecticve hebe jeebes!)
dude
you REALLY need a photo editor!
Sorry Dave…
I guess I could send you another batch of photos and crash your computer again, will I ever learn… (He’s still mad at me, after 3 years…) I just edited them and shrunk them down a bit, though it would be better for everyone to get 42" flat screens.
I’ve always come in from the south as I was living a bit south of Fresno at the time. I think that pass clears sooner.
You might be right, but I heard this year, the pass was closed much later, due to the heavy snow there.
Glorious stuff mate!
But what did you do up there? You should have gone to Strängnäs instead and let me test-drive that flute
Seriously though, it’s nice up there, if your into that kind of stuff, but aren’t there tons of similar places in other countries?
Strängnäs is a town speeped in swedish history. Drop by here next time (and for heavens sake, bring the flute!!)
Hi Henke,
Well I am sure Strangnas is a nice place, but Yosemite is closer to drive to. As for what I did, not much, but thats the idea. There is nice places all over the world, you don’t need to come here.
In California, you can go surfing, then pop up to the mountains and ski.
The main park of Yosemite is a real zoo, with thousands of people milling around buying currios and eating at the snack bars, it was nice to have some solitude.
Jon
Well, everything south of Jämtland is too hot for me in the summer and I am definitely in that kind of mosquito stuff.
I never found anything similar to the long valleys between Abisko and Nikkaluokta anywhere else, at least in Europe:
I am not used to be awoken by 300 reindeer around my tent.
But since I eventually have to go to Stockholm, I could of course bring some flutes with me…
Well, of course it’s a special culture up there with Sami’s and everything. I guess that when it’s so close you don’t think it’s that special.
Stockholm is about 80Km from me sothat would be nice.
Where do you live?
Probably… But for me the swedish culture is interesting as well. There are a lot of things I really love in the North of Europe, and Sweden is my favorite nordic country.
Matt_Paris lives in Paris But one day I could become Matt_Stockholm…
I brought my flute (sorry Jon, not the Blackwood, I didn’t want to stress it with the massive change in humidity) on my honeymoon in Quebec. After a long hike (8 hours) up to a vista in the Jacques Cartier national forest I played the Wise Old Maid on my M&E original, the birds really liked it. I’ll have to get a picture up when I get the chance.
That is why you need a R&R delrin to match the blackwood.
How was the trip? Should have been good weather up there, this time of year. Did you drag your new wife to every session in town? Did she catch on when you said, “Oh by the way there is this little Celtic festival that happens to be going on right now, should we go?” (Explosion!)
Jon
My wife and I honeymooned in Ireland last year, and session-restraint (on my part) was very important, as I wanted our matrimonial life to get off to a good start. We did attend two lovely sessions, however, and both enjoyed ourselves very much.
