Hi all, I am looking for recordings of airs being sung, so I can get a better idea of how some of the tunes should feel. I looked in Galway recently only to be faced by my complete ignorance of what would be a good cd to buy. There seemed to be a lot of singalong stuff which I’m not keen on.
So a few suggestions would be greatfully received!
thanks
Rob
Karen Casey sings some airs on earlier
Solas recordings. I don’t know what
she’s done solo, but she may cover some.
Ah was she with Solas, I didn’t know, after posting my plea I found this site which looks useful and mentions her.

I’d learnt Bunnan Bui from the dots before Christmas then was told by a friend who had the song from a her mother that though the bittern was dead of thirst the thrust of the song was that you’d better keep up the drink or yer done for, which changed my perception of the tune somewhat.

It isn’t slow airs are the problem .It is stagnant airs !
Here’s the web site you want for Irish singing:

If they don’t have it, its either no longer available, or it isn’t worth listening to.

Well, http://www.gael-linn.ie/ isn’t half bad either for a different selection.
Soundclips downloadable, like teh Glen](http://www.gael-linn.ie/musicstore/trackdetail.aspx?lang=En&tid=1071&ProductID=CEFCD182%22%3EGlen) Nephin Cuckoo, sung by Sorcha ni Ghuairim
If you were looking in Galway as you said, Powell’s on Shop st has a good selection of Sean Nos singing. Mulligan’s has good stuff too.

Andrew, you ve been around a certain flatulent person too long!!
Thanks for those, I went to Powell’s and Mulligans but wasn’t sure what to get in the Sean Nos line, no trouble with the flute and fiddle cd’s as my visa bill has just reminded me!
