I don;t know if mine was narrow bore or not, but I had a D/C set once. I liked them. Very good for sessions. But I needed to reclaim the money, so I had to sell them. If I had money to spend on a new whistle, a Silkstone alloy would probably be among the top considerations.
I had a Silkstone Alloy Narrow Bore for a bit of time. It was a lovely sounding whistle but all it did was CLOG! It drove me crazy. I thought it was me so I sold it. The new owner experienced the same problem.
If your sad little face is any indication you are having perhaps the same problem??
I haven’t heard tell of this aggravation with the regular bore Alloy or with the PVC. Seems to be confined to the narrow bore.
I didn’t realize there was a narrow bore. I have the regular. Not your average whistle, in playing characteristics, but a very good one. Cuts through the fiddles. Very much in tune.
I have a regular (not narrow bore) and it’s one of the best whistles i have. I think it’s overpriced (but then, a lot of good whistles are), but i got mine on eBay and it was a good deal.
I wasn’t wild about the tone at first. It grows on you. It can be heard above a lot of other instruments.
I think mine is regular bore, not narrow and it’s my #1 session whistle at this time. It’s loud and it’s very in tune. Tone is good. Beautifuly made.
Heh, Glauber, Whitmores…
Didn’t both you guys get your Silkstones from me? ![]()
Yes i did!
You have like, a side business selling them, right?
I wouldn’t have bought mine at the normal price, but Greg sold it to me at a very good price, and it’s one of my favourite whistles. Very reliable.
Yup, sure did.
Although I have been a long-time ‘lurker’ on this board this is my first post.
My Silkstone Narrow Bore is currently my favourite D whistle and I have not yet known it to clog. This may be a personal thing because I do not seem to suffer the problems of clogging which others apparently do.
Of all the whistles I have acquired since I contracted WHOA the only whistle which I do have this problem with is a Harper High D which I now vary rarely play.
I do have other problems connected with my whistle playing however - the principal one being lack of talent!!

I have a narrowbore D+ made as a car whistle (living along with a Hoover brass, Feadog double nickel and Gen Eb nickel…). Paul made two and kept one. It does clog IF I’m in too much hurry to play it from cold, but serves it’s purpose.
The ordinary bore D+ is the only one of my whistles my 15yo daughter will play  …no Copelands,Overtons, Grinters or Abells for her…Very well made.
