So, I was watching Conan O’Brien recently (I rarely do this, but I was up late
programming). And the musical guest was a man named Shooter Jennings.
He’s Waylon Jennings’ son, and the music he played that night is hard to
describe… It’s like…

It’s like Mitch Hedberg’s ghost possessed Kid Rock and forced him to start
a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band, but then decided to get Beck to write new
lyrics.

Hyperbole, you say? Don’t be silly, Beck would totally be into that.

Has anyone heard of Shooter before? Is he worth looking into? Hard to tell
with only one live sampling…

Speaking of Waylon Jennings, apparantly there’s a female folk trio called
“The Wailin’ Jennys”. And they sing purty. How cool is that (for certain
values of “cool”)?

I’ve heard of Shooter and I enjoy what music of his I’ve heard. He and Hank, Jr. do a song together which I can’t remember the name of, where they talk about Hank, Sr. Good stuff.

Yup, there’s a group of us from the NCSU session going. I’m in the first row
under the balcony (if I read the Fletcher seating chart correctly).

P.S., Did you notice that the Carborro Arts Center is bringing in Dervish on the
same night! Who’s bright idea was that? We’d bought our Altan tix before the
Art Center announced their spring “Celtic music” lineup (as did many, I’m
sure). That might be a disappointing turnout…

Yeah, we noticed. Unfortunately you don’t always have the benefit of knowing these things during the booking process. (Sometimes you do). We also have to watch out for conflicts with the State Fair, etc., etc…

We did very well with Taj Mahal last month, which saved our skins. We’re hoping for another stroke of good fortune. These are tough times for nonprofits! :sniffle:

I think it was the Art Center that dropped the ball on that one. Though, I think
they’re trying to have an Irish music series every spring if it remains popular.
So now you have something else to schedule around.

Dervish has been here so often, I bet most people will go to Altan. Or maybe
this will cause an Triangle Irish divide… Heh. At any rate, it’s very good to
see more folk concerts in the area. Keep up the good work!
