I have a full set of deKeyzer pipes done in real ivory and silver that I would like to send over to Arie to work on.I’ve been told that Ivory can’t be shipped into Ireland Does anybody out there have experience with this issue and are there ways to keep your set from being confiscated as an illegal commodity. I live in Denver, Colorado thanks Rick
Don’t.
Presumably he shipped them to yersel so why not get on to him and ask him to find the ins and oots re CITES etc and see what he has to say if all the paperwork is in order then there isnae a problem. If not take a holiday to Eire.

Give Arie a call and see if he has some paperwork he can send you to ease the shipping.
Can the ivory be removed at all before shipping?
If there was someone going to Ireland that you could trust, you could send the pipes along.
There are pipers I know personally who play ivory laden Rowsome sets who travel all over the world and never get questioned at all.
There’s always Fed-Ex, you could send a pound of grass with them and be fine!
Only joking of course…

I don’t think paperwork is going to help you.
Rowsome pipes were clearly made before the export ban; if your pipes were made post 1977 (when separate US legal restrictions came into effect) then you are going to have a potential problem. If they were exported commercially (i.e. sold) after the total CITES ban took effect in 1989 then they are indeed contraband and thus documentation will be of little use.
