sheetmusic

Are there any websites on the net with sheet music for tin whistles?

Also, I just got one of these whistles a little while ago, so if any of you know of some songs that would be easy for me to learn how to play, I’d really really appreciate it if you’d tell me. I do know how to read music and have had some background in music in general, so I’m not a complete dufus.(I used to play a clarinet back in middle school. Now if I could just force myself to forget all those useless clarnet fingerings, I’d be so much less a dufus…)

Hey,
Try going to http://www.prairienet.org/~jscolbur/ccitcol/index.htm. That has 100 songs and most of the one’s that i’ve played are easy on whistle. Also, if you wanted to buy a book this one would probably be good http://www.thewhistleshop.com/catalog/tutorials/whistlesongbooks/irelandsbest/ireland’.htm I don’t have it but it says it’s for penny whistle. Now for some songs that are easy on whistle.

Angeline the Baker, Drowsy Maggie (the 2nd part is kind of hard but everybody needs a challenge) Over the Waterfall, Swallow Tail Jig, and i know there’s lots more that i’ll think of once i get off but o well. Also, if you’re wanting to buy another book try the Portland Collection. I have this and it has lots of songs that are relatively easy on a “d” whistle (and there are songs in other keys). hope this helps.

cool, thanks. Now all I have to do is buy a printer…

I’d recommend you go to http://genres.mp3.com/music/world_folk/world_traditions/european/celtic/ and download yourself lots of music (or buy some CDs of Traditional Irish Music).

If you hear a tune you’d like, you’ll probably find the music for it at http://trillian.mit.edu/~jc/cgi/abc/TuneFind

One of my first tunes was “Kesh Jig”. You’d be hard pressed to find a session where the tune wasn’t known by everyone so it’s a good place to start.

Try the sessioneer web site. Has lots of sheet music, instruction better than most books and lot of other stuff.

what’s the URL?

Mick’s Virtual Whistle is a great site.
Mick provides recordings of the tunes along with the sheet music… that’s very helpful.

We’re approaching our 300th song…which means we’re no where near JC’s TuneFinder
