My tenor drone quill has gone flat. how do i sharpen it? i have no experience with adjusting the reed itself for tuning purposes. sliding it in and out will not quite make it up to D, so what tampering tricks with the reed will sharpen it?
I used to use an electric pencil sharpener for this. 
Does your drone reed have a bridle, i.e. a thread or o-ring around it? Moving the bridle up in VERY small increments to shorten the tongue will raise the note. Also, check out some of the various reed-making books. Besides reed-making, they also give you a better idea of how to manipulatre the reeds to get the best sound.
