Sharp E's in two octaves...

Hiya Dirk,

Paddy sounded just like Paddy - and while he was saying his tone got all “gravelly” out here, it sounded OK to me. What I did seem to notice was that he dropped a few notes, (or maybe they dropped on him without asking) and sometimes it sounded like his reed just quit on him. But all in all, he coverd extremely well as he always does.

I’ve talked to Seth last Wednesday actually, and asked him about my new chanter and about buying some staples for it etc. He said the best thing to do was to send it back to him so he could find the “best” staple for it. Yikes. I didn’t think they’d be THAT tempermental! I would like to get something going with a rolled design though. After a few hours of playing last night at our local session, I did notice the upper octave to be a touch flat relative to the first - which is just what Seth mentioned was his experience when using tubing vs. rolled. Who knows…?

If you’ve got a few staples with no home, I’d be happy to adopt some and see what kind of good, upstanding citizens, er…reeds I could mold them into.

Thanks!

Who John or Carlos. …saw Carlos in Glasgow ..poser or what!!
Uilliam

Carlos of course. And I bet that poser could show any of us on this here board a thing or two about technique and style. He’s a bit um…well, “interesting” to watch perform, but there’s no denying the man really gets into his music and thouroughly enjoys what he does.

Still a great concert, and I still suggest getting tickets to this year’s tour if possible.

Why of course (not very nice for John is it?)
last time I saw him(Carlos) he was playing the Galician Pipes with his old buddy Liam Og,as I was not interested in Galician pipes or him gyrating all over the stage with them,I fail to see what ye could learn about technique and style as applied to Uilleann pipes ..Has he started playing the Uilleann Pipes?
Uilliam
ps he is still a poser

There is of course, much more to a piper’s playing than watching how the move on stage. If he has the desire to move when he plays so be it - I don’t think it’s any mark of how good someone is or is not. As for the other comment you make - still not certain about the point you’re trying to make. He is a really good musician, who plays really well on a difficult instrument. Not certain how that makes him pose to be anything he’s not. He’s also pretty humble and very approachable. More than can be said for more than a few uilleann pipers.

Do to take this back to the topic at hand - I think Carlos’ E’s were both in tune.
