shamless self promotion of video clip featuring Hoza wooden

Hello everyone,
in case you are interested to see and hear a boehm flute with a mark hoza wooden head being played, there are a few small video clips of a performance we did recently at the site
http://www.xenovibes.com

In the videos section, the song “I verity” features a solo played on an emerson model 8 flute with the hoza head.(this is my main flute for gigs).

WARNING, this is NOT ITM, it is a very electronic band. I keep on meaning to record a few irish tunes with the wooden head, but have not yet got around to it.

Tres Cool. And beautiful playing!

Also not ITM, but if anyone would for some weird reason want to hear me playing Brazilian music and Bach on my old Miyazawa with Hoza head, go to http://www.woodenflutemaker.com/HeadJoints.html and scroll to the bottom of the page… That’s just me in the basement, with the computer’s microphone, no effects – it does have a huge sound, even in these crappy recordings. I think my favourite is #3, but “Wave” is kinda nice too. I kept all clips at 1 minute or less, to keep them light.

Nice playing Glauber, I’ve always wanted to have ago at the G Major Cello suite, thanks for the inspiration.

Hello, John S, thanks! Are you John Skelton?

Those are from a book called “24 Concert Studies from the Works of JS Bach”. The cheap edition in the US is from Southern Music, but there’s probably a better edition in Europe.

The most cost-effective way to get them is probably this CD:
The Ultimate Collection Of Flute Methods, Studies And Ensembles.

They’re very good (some are pretty hard), but most of them go down to low C, and since i do mostly Baroque flute these days, i don’t use them much anymore.

Nice playing, Glauber. I enjoyed the Bach, but I especially liked the three Brazilian pieces, with #3 being my favorite, as well. The headjoint sounds good, but I was shocked when I saw the price.

It was substantially less when i bought mine; i wonder why it went up so much. I wouldn’t have bought it for the current price (and it would have been my loss).

On the plus side, Mark is a great guy and a pleasure to work with. I expressed to him my uneasiness to buy something without trying it first, and he sent me 3 heads to try. The file names for those clips start with 121, 122, and 123, the serial numbers of the heads i was trying. I kept 121. They were very different from one another (not in look, but in how they played and sounded).

Even after i bought it, he kept insisting that i could send it back so he could change whatever aspect of it i don’t like. I never did, because i think adapting to the challenges of a new instrument is half the fun.
