What type/style of bass regulator does Seth Gallagher put on his full sets? I can’t see the end of the regulator pipe where the reed goes (ie that you put your left arm under to play the chanter) on amy of his pictures . Is it the standard or wrap around style (not that i even know the difference really!!!) or is there an option? Look forward to your replies
You’re right. Seth builds the bass reg with a Taylor-style wraparound so the reed cap doesn’t extend over the top of the stock. I couldn’t find a good photo that clearly demonstrates the configuration. You may have to hunt around to find one, or ask someone who has a full set from him. I don’t know of any particular advantage to this other than that it makes the set more compact and easier to store.
The reed in the regulators are exactly where you would find them in chanters. Essentially, regulators are chanters, but are fully keyed and have a closed bell.
Without the bass reg sticking up in the air it is easier to position the set across your knees for better access to the regs (if you prefer this position for playing regs). Also it is easier to find a case to fit your set without having to disassemble the bass reg.
I really think this is a matter of personal tastes.
Thanks guys… I have to say I don’t know would they feel the same without the reg bar under my arm but sure I can talk to Seth and see if he minds making the regular style for me. My order is a bit off anyway…I went the set to be the perfect one for me when it arrives, I want no more dissappointments with regard to pipes!!!
