I hear everyone on the board talking all the time about a new whistle either being a session whistle or a non-session whistle.
Basically, I’m asking, what are the ‘criteria’ for a whistle to be considered a ‘session whistle,’ and what whistles are popular ‘session whistles?’
Well, it really depends on the session, but in most cases I think people mean a whistle that is loud enough to blend in with the other instruments without being lost.
Copelands are “session whistles”.

In Ireland I saw that most of the whistles played in session were Susatos. In the US, the whistles I hear played tend to be Burkes, Overton, Susato, and occasionally something like a Copeland.
