Reading NancyF’s thread about her get-togther, and also about Stevie J’s brunch last Sunday - gave me a (probably quite wild) idea.
I have a place in Ireland, a large room - with instruments (lots of whistles, flutes, bodhran, fiddles etc), which is built onto a much larger old hall, with a stage and great acoustics. Both of which are literally across the road from several very good Irish pubs!
Well, it occurs to me that while there may be not many folk on the board living a short walk down the road from me - several board members do get over to Ireland now and then.
So, there is an open invitation to come and play at Shanna Quay and in the hall - and then to let me take you for a Guinness or four, later.
I’d be surprised if, with a little forward planning, we couldn’t get 4 or 5 people from the board together in the one place at some point next year. Maybe you could e-mail me with your intended travel plans and I’ll see if I can co-ordinate a ‘Chiffer’s in Ireland session’.
Hi Steve,
I’ll be making the semi-annual pilgrimage next spring some time. I’ll be in Clare, Limerick and Kerry. I’ll e-mail you when we’re putting an itinerary together and you can try to coordinate with other chiff+fipplers that might be traveling through…
Now the pressure is on. There’s 6 months for me to learn how to play.
Peter,
My sister lives near Killaloe, About as far away from you as can be and still be in Clare. If time permits, I wouldn’t be opposed to putting the few extra miles on the rental and paying a visit. From reading your posts, you seem like you really know what you’re talking about without wielding it like a stick.
Cheers,
jb
You’d make adare in 2 hours in a fast car with a following wind! Bring your pipes and join the session - also your excellent black and white prints, I’m certain people would love to see them.
