Sending flute from UK to USA - Best way?

Im having trouble getting a good quote for sending my flute to the USA. Can anyone give me an idea of some good companys to try…Im getting quoted like £170 and the like through UPS???

Cheers, Chris!

I used DHL when I sent a flute to the states. The charged me 34 euros for shipping and around 25 for insurance. It worked out fine. I don’t know if DHL is available in the UK. You could also check DPD and GLS for availability, they are both quite popular in Germany and operate worldwide.

Thanks! Al give them a go just now

Use the Royal Mail. Fast, efficient and inexpensive…and there are no expensive brokerage fees that courrier companies charge bringing a parcel through customs.
cheers,
Paul

I’ve used the Royal Mail in the past and had no problem.

BUT, they only insure up to £500, so the risk is yours…

Pamela

Yup, I’ve always used the Post Office - the insurance limit is the only problem… I usually use Airmail Small Packet with some kind of recorded or tracked delivery - exactly what service is available depends on the destination country and the level of insurance required… You can use the Royal Mail website to explore the possibilities, or just talk to your local PO! I think there are even ways of sorting out higher insurance (maybe independently of the actual postal service), though I haven’t had to do that. The most expensive Royal Mail service will be a fraction of what the independent couriers charge for this kind of stuff - don’t give 'em your patronage unless unavoidable!
