I know the feeling. My fiance yells “Hello, wedding guests” every time I start playing my mandolin, which represents 3 wedding guests in cost.

Oh, the answer to that is easy: elope! A justice of the peace is just as good as any fancing wedding… better if it means you get to spend the money on -important- things…

Errr… unless, of course, your fiance isn’t a musician and doesn’t understand this principle… that could be a tiny glitch in this otherwise perfect plan…

Explain to your dearly belov-ed that a mandolin is for life, whereas a wedding guest is only for lunch! But remember to duck!

Steve

You can even avoid the JP fee. Have a friend go to one of the Universal Life Church sites and get ordained, then that friend can conduct the ceremony and you can get married for just the cost of the license and any court filing fee. ULC ordained ministers have legal standing to perform marriages in all 50 states. Ordination is free; certificate of sainthood (not required to perform marriages)is extra.

Sites are http://www.ulc.net and http://www.ulc.org . How a religion that has no particular set of beliefs or dogma can manage to have a schism is beyond me, but it sure looks like they have.

You can find a summary of the requirements for your state here – http://www.ulc.net/laws.html

Yeah, but I can’t get the ULC to talk to me, and I need a letter to prove that I’m in good standing before I can perform marriages in Massachusetts. :frowning:
