Seeking advice: Car insurance providers in the US

Hi all,

I’m about to buy a car for the first time since 2000. It’ll be located in Oregon. Can anyone recommend a decent insurer? I can’t remember who I used to be with (haven’t had a car since 2004), but I remember that they covered broken glass for free, which was a great boon when I came home on November and found my back windshield shattered!

We use The Travelers, and they’ve been fine. There are agents in Oregon. Service may be partly dependent on agents and staff
at your particular location, but I’ve never had a problem with the coverage, service, or price.

We use Geico (have for the past 10 years), and we’ve been very happy with it. Low rates, good customer service.

Thanks Red  We went with progressive in the end, as they seemed to be the only one whose online quote could cope with Martin’s foreign driver’s license.

There are many auto insurance companies that will offer you insurance. Yet, if you have an accident and are sued for major damages, that is when it really matters whether you have a good insurer. The lowest cost insurer may not be the best insurer; I really shoudln’t have to say that. Farmers Insurance Company was there for me when I really needed it.
