I read just now on another forum that the great Belfast fiddler/piper Sean McGuire has died. A real genius on the fiddle, like no one before or since, and a gent by all acounts as well.
Sean was an excellent piper too, I’ve a bit of him from the late 60s playing the pipes and it’s lovely, charming music.

“The Mason’s Apron,” a video of Sean, named after his signature tune, with his own parts and variations - which Matt Molloy adapted for the flute.
Great fiddler he played a sort of style that hasn’t been influenced by POP and classicle music of the day. It’s a style that is eunicly his.
If the recordings you made of Sean are not copyrighted. Would it be possible to post some on Clips and Snips? Sean McGuire is known for his fiddling and not neccessarily his piping. If your able to get permission from his family…please post the recordings.
This is a great loss to Irish Traditional Music and to those who admired his playing. May his sole rest in peace.

No, I didn’t make the recordings myself, they were made for a man who was a customer of Leo Rowsome’s, I think in the 50s, an American, who also owned a certain set of Taylor pipes…
If someone in the know could check with Sean’s family I’d be glad to post a couple of the files.
