Seamus' first day of kindergarten.

Today, little Seamus had his first day of Kindergarten. He has been very excited for this day, and made a lot of new friends. But of course, he has that mischievous gene in him. :smiling_imp: He pulled the fire alarm and made the whole school evacuate. It put back lunch schedules and class schedules tremendously. :open_mouth: Fortunately, nobody was mad because he had no idea what the fire alarm was, and he was just curious. He cried a lot, but then he got better. He can’t wait to go back to school Monday, and I am thankful for that. I thought that this was a funny little story and a crazy way to start off school.

Does anybody else have any crazy or funny first day or school stories?

Not to top that one. Have the grandparents said, “What goes around comes around.” or “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.”

I sure as hell hope school hasn’t started school at the beginning of August, especially on a Friday. Kids need some time to be kids. If he really did start today, I hope he has a month off in the winter and gets out in May.

They actually get out on June 8th, and start Aug 7. It is crazy how the Summer just flew by. I don’t think that it is fair at all for the kids here.

A neighboring county here started on the 7th.
Our county starts the 17th.
I agree- too soon. What ever happened to “summer vacation”?

I certainly don’t know, and it annoys me to no end. Every year at this time when the light begins to slant just so, I start looking forward to that fresh box of crayons, only to realize with a start that I somehow missed summer vacation, there isn’t going to be any new box of crayons, and there aren’t any cute tartan skirts to get out of the closet, either.

It’s really very unfair. I’m still six and there should be crayons.

I can appreciate a kid a kid who walks into the school on the first day and immediately goes for the fire alarm. Yeah, let’s get a little more action around here.

The schools also started the 7th here, but they split up the kindergarten classes between the 7th and the 8th. My schools were late May to early September.

NC just passed a law a few years ago that mandated
that schools have to start after a certain date in late
August (mostly because of the tourism lobby). It had
been creeping earlier and earlier in August for decades.
Of course, year-round schools are exempt, but I’m
surprised WC’s county starts so early.

What did he do today?

  I asked him, and he said, “Well, I didn’t pull the buzzer thing.”

I don’t understand, WC. Who is little Seamus?

Yes, exactly! Who is little Seamus?

I know I’ve been away more than here, but how could I have missed that?

Not kindergarten, but on her first day of pre-school, at the ripe old age of 3, Johanna walked into the room, spied a plastic box labeled “Mr. Potatoe Head” (sic) in black marker, put her hands on her hips and said “what is this, Dan Quayle Pre-School?”

Ah, the joys of hyperlexia!
