I envy the lot of yuzz. Beautiful piping weather, if you are into that kind of thing. Did you know Embarass Minnesota had the record low for the lower 48 last week? Gawd, what was it, -38F or something? So cold you could throw a pan of water in the air and it would freeze before it hit the ground.
It has been so cold, and we have been inside so long that everyone is getting a little…edgy. Like, you start poking each other in the side to check the marbling, edgy.
I had to miss the tionol and instead visited my father in East TN who remains hospitalized after surgery. He is getting along OK. Will be home later this week if all goes well.
Tionol withdrawal symptoms have already set in! My wife is completely sick of Planxty Browne and I’m only home a day. Thanks very much to everyone for such a warm welcome and a well organized weekend. I wish I had taken more time to swap contacts, so I’ll just post mine here: john_manning10 at hotmail dot com
Cheerio! John
Great weekend! Mickey Dunne is a gentleman of the first order and most generous with his time and talent. I thought his piping was fantastic. I’m still too sleep deprived to comment cogently, but I want to publicly say thanks to all who helped to make this year’s tionól possible.
Richard- I just got home around 2 today after cavorting at Amgen’s Santa Rosa stage. I have yet to break out my pipes and get the 2nd part.
I looked up Mickey’s NOMAD project site via his web site. Interesting stuff for those who were around on Sunday. I hooked up with Sean Folsom, Cathy, Meridith and Jason at the Starry Plough on Sunday nite and had a great time.
The friday and Saturday nite sessions were great as always-assuming I could stay awake.
Just wanted to say thanks for coming out from everyone in our club. It was nice to see you all, especially the out-of towners. Mickey said he had a great weekend & I’m glad you all did too! (The baby had fun too!) Unfortunately I didn’t get to take any of the classes this year but we got lots of positive comments about them & about Mickey’s teaching.
Hi Justine, it was great to see you and to meet Eoghan. In the spirit of friendly parental competition, lets see which baby can play Jenny’s welcome to Charlie the best at the next Seattle Tionol LOL
Thanks again to you all for a grand weekend! John
My mini disc recorder had pilot error so I didn’t get Mickey teaching Planxty Browne. NoE graciously sent me 2 recordings of Mickey playing; however, I’d like to get Mickey’s talking through the tune. Can anyone share???
I couldn’t get to talk to Sean at the Starry Plough last Sunday, but he looked like he was playing a copy of Ted Anderson’s 4 reg Taylor set, sans double reed chanter. Anyone have a discription/history/ pictures of that set?
Finally practicing again after watching the Tour of California on TV.
