Rudall on ebay

Hi radcliffe

From the hints I take it you are the buyer?

If so I am looking forward to hearing a clip of it being played.

David

Hi david,
unfortunatly I’m not such rich to get other rudalls…
but fortunatly I really don’t need other flutes right now :- )))))))))
(although my “Flute Acquisition Syndrome”, rudall strain, is always on the run!)

my english still needs to improve a lot so I can be easily misunderstood…(sorry!)

Ummm, maybe Grade 3… Merit but no Distinction…

R&R 3510, patent head and B foot… medium holes and 3’000 GBP… cracked head and barrel.
I wonder if it will get any bids…

Looks nice. I’d love to have a B foot joint, and I like that double Bb touch. Price seems right to me, but then, I’m only a n00b. Got it there or thereabouts last time though.

Nice looking flute, good for weight lifting… Had one in the shop a while back, the long foot does balance the patent head, but it is a hefty flute! I don’t think they will have any problem selling it. :sunglasses:

I wonder, though, about putting what seems to me to be a reasonable finishing price as the minimum bid. Will this put people off? People who might otherwise have bid up to the level indicated, that is.

A seller’s minimum bid should be set to the lowest price they are willing to accept for it. If it goes higher (and no reason it couldn’t) due to competitive bidding, I’m sure they’re willing to take the risk :stuck_out_tongue: . If they wanted to negotiate, they’d include the Best Offer option. Reserve pricing just turns potential buyers away. eBay is currently not a marketplace to list an item for $0.99 and hope there is sufficient exposure and interest from bidders to take it to market price.

Well, the vendor obviously paid less than £3k for it given he has vectored in his selling costs to his starting price… mind, I reckon he got a bargain if so! In fully restored playing condition I reckon one like this (B foot, extra Bb touch) ought to be worth at least £4k. But the head and barrel crack probably take about £500 off as-is purchase value - and they’re a good bit harder to fix on a Patent Head than on an ordinary one, with more risk of things going wrong at the disassembly stage…

I suspect the starting price will put a good many bidders off (viz several other recent R&R and Wylde sales/non-sales on eBay), but it seems reasonable enough to me given both the extra collectability of the non-standard specs and the likely costs/risks of full restoration.

Damn nice looking flute! I’d venture the dosh if I had it!

A nice, interesting Rudall, but prehaps something more for a collector/invester than an Irish traditional flute player, considering the starting price, plus as Jem mentioned a possible 500 quid extra repair cost. The low Bb is nice, but how often do you need it playing Irish trad.? Eight key Rudalls & Wyldes that would do the job at a lower price seem to be up for sale quite often these days

I didn’t see a low Bb … ?

Correct. Low B (not flat), in pic#5 at http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170483771948

My mistake, B not Bb

As I kinda expected, went to a single bidder at the starting price. Reckon they got a good deal!
