A friend has just bought a new Bb flute off ebay, i went to his house tonight and although it has no numbers or title anywhere i could see , it looks very like a Rudall Carte, its a lovely job in great condition and the power off it is like nothing ive ever heard on a Bb flute, i know there is a cpl of Rudall Carte, Rudall & Rose & Hawkes & Son experts on this forum so i was hoping someone could help us to solve this puzzel .
Is it possible that it could be a Rudall even though it has no stamp ?
Not at all likely. Can you get and share some photos or give us the eBay item link? I take it this is a Bb treble (melody) band flute, not a “bass” band flute or low Bb tenor flute/flute d’amour?
Ive asked him to join the forum but ill also ask him to send me the photos or link as you say, its very very similar to an old Hawkes & Son Crown AZ i once owned infact identical but the wood is lighter maybe Cocus ? iam not sure iam no expert and has a Cylindrical Bore iam sure.
Anyway Jem ill get photos on one way or another and you can get a look, thanks again .
It is a Hawkes & Son Crown AZ Jem & not a Rudal Carte, please forgive my ignorance also seemingly these flutes did come without serial numbers anyway Beautiful flute all the same , id love to know a bit about it ie age etc, so hopefully hell join the forum soon and post up some pics and you and others could help with your knowledge Jem.
Well, I’m not sure you need any more info now that you’ve identified it as a CAZ, but if you do, we’re going to need those pictures and/or the eBay sale link.
Now a potentialy interesting thread come up…Instead of “flute for sale or sold” )
Let down by no pics. Confusing it all… Is it a Rudall Carte without markings? The two flute makers Bb flutes (Band flutes Jem:-)) could not be mistaken as twins…Then it’s a Hawkes Crown AZ in cocus and no serial No. or more probably logo and maker? If it is cocus then I am thinking, it is not a Hawkes AZ as they are usually found in African Blackwood or ebonite?
So it would be enlightening to have a look at the flute pics that has been requested a cpl (you’ve got me abbreviating that now) couple of times & if not able to post, send by eMail & Jem will be only to pleased to put them up I believe? The last time I was involved in a thread with CT the Mod stepped in… not sure why & maybe once more… over the dig about these annoying (IMHO) for sale ads on the main board & not on the UIE? Hope we all that have interest in these “little lesser band flutes” can get to the bottom of the OP query:-))
