Rounds

Has anybody played any tunes as a “round” with several other whistles? I was thinking that might work nicely with church music, common hymns etc.

Any particular tunes work well in this format?

What characteristics must a tune have in order for it to work well as a round?

Hi Ho, Nobody Home works brilliantly
as a round for whistles–nice
if there’s a guitar too. I think
the chords are Amin, G, F, Emaj–
best picked (1,2,3,4). One whistle
can improvise against the others
playing the round

Brian Boru’s March can be played sort of as a round with parts being played over each other (i.e. A part over the B part and so on).

Lewis Bridal Song (I think that’s the name… Mairi’s Wedding?) is a good round A against B.

If you are using a guitar, the chords should match in the A and B parts.

If I am not mistaken…In regards to church music. Canons can be played in rounds.

Look into the childrens selection of church music. Some will be played in rounds. I also believe WEE Sing Bible tunes have a few rounds in them.

I have played a few rounds on my whilste and they turn out really well.

I also agree with tyghress…Marie’s Wedding is a wonderful song to play as a round.

If you have a local sheet music store to spend a whole day at …(like I tend to do )
I am sure you will find a book that is totally dedicated to rounds.

Rounds have been A-round for a long time
