Thinking out loud, guffaw if you will, but , has anybody here ever tried rolling tin?
I am enamored with the look/tone of the Shaw whistles, would love to try making something similar.
making a whistle that took into account the criticisms on the shaw, and trying to overcome them.
I have NO idea on doing this, but love to learn stuff.
anybody??
Steve
Use a mandrel of the appropriate shape and roll/hammer the metal into shape around it?
Here’s and article about rolling (among other things) tapered ferules for the Uilleann pipes, not quite the same but you’ll get the basic idea from it.
good link thanks, getting the mandrel looks like the largest obstacle, I have a large conical file that may do to try something.
I don’t watch sports so I have a bit of free time most every evening and wknds. gotta do something
Steve
The first is rolling Tin/nickel silver. Can’t help there.
The second is overcoming criticism’s of the Shaw. Buy a Shaw. Send it to Jerry Freeman. He will do it for you. You won’t learn how to roll tin but you will learn the easiest way to overcome the criticism’s of the Shaw.
well my desire was to make a low D , and at the cheapest pric I found is 122.00, Id hate to tear it apart.
I believe I read Mr Freeman does tweak the lowere whistles due to the metal being where he cannot adjust the windway.
Guess Ill just have to forget about this. no biggie
thanks for the input though.
