Ridseard...I just sent you an Elf Song .WAV file

Sorry it’s so huge. Yikes…who’d think that 60 seconds of music (all this basic recorder can handle) could take up so much space! I can’t really tell much about the quality either (I have a dinky mic and dinky speakers). I can sure see why people prefer MP3!

Anyway, hopefully it will work, and the forum will have its first totally unadorned Elf Song clip!

What would I need, in terms of equipment and software, to record MP3s myself? Could be something to add to my birthday list, at some point

Here it is!

That sounds very nice. Oh here we go again …, WhOA atack coming on!

But unadorned? Who was doing the heavy breathing in the background?

Redwolf…you could have made that .wav file into an MP3 yourself. You were halfway done just by recording and saving it as a wav. When you save your file, you can change the format properties in the recorder. I’ve explained it in detail around here somewhere…can’t remember which thread at this time, sorry.

Probably my dog .

Seriously though…trying to get one simple song recorded last night was an adventure. First, of course, I kept hitting clinkers (why is it when you most want to play well, you play most abysmally?). When I finally got my fingers unlimbered, I recorded a fairly good rendition of “The South Wind” only to realize that my recorder would only allow 60 seconds of recording, which cut it off at the last measure (grrr!). So I started trying with “The Parting Glass,” which is just a tad shorter, and all of a sudden, I kept getting background noise…the cat would jump off the railing and take half the books with him, my daughter would come running out of her room yelling “mom!”…mercy!

2nd Wind, thanks for the reminder. I do remember, now you mention it, that you’d said there should be a way to save the file as an MP3 on the recorder. I fiddled with it a bit this morning…hopefully next time I’ll be able to do this myself. Last night I was just so focused on getting it done, as everyone kept saying “we want to hear an Elf Song clip!”, so when Ridseard kindly offered to convert it and put it on his site, I jumped at the chance

Anyway, hope this helps those of you who are struggling with WhOA!

Oooo, Redwolf, thanks! The sound is beautiful! It sounds very smooth and creamy to me. I did really want to hear it, since that was my only remaining question about Elfsongs (not knowing what they sounded like)…if I ever get the money, I will definitely be getting one!

Thanks again!

I do believe that’s the first time I’ve heard “smooth & creamy” to describe a sound.

hmmmm..

Makes me want to have the Parting Glass with you. Lovely work!

LOL! My daughter used to use the word “creamy” to describe anything she really liked…be it a food, a song, or a flower. I’d forgotten about that until just now!

This whistle does have a distinctive richness to its sound…wasn’t sure if that came across in the clip. That’s why I particularly like it for airs…I get to hang on those long notes and think “coooool!”

I’ve been fiddling with my recorder program this morning, and I THINK I may have the conversion thing figured out. I may play around with it some more tonight, when my daughter is asleep, and see if I can make an MP3 all by my little self

 Sorry, Uriah, that’s just what came to mind when I heard it. I was thinking about chocolate at the time…maybe that’s why!

 Maybe my next recording should be the old Nestle’s song…remember that one?

Redwolf, That was great! Make sure you put the cat out before you start to record this time, or keep it occupied with something smooth and creamy.

Next time I’ll just warm up by playing “Danny Boy.” Poor cat knows as soon as he hears it I’m going to be leaning on that high B any minute, and usually runs off to hide under my daughter’s bed until he doesn’t hear the whistle anymore. It’s gotten to where, if he’s clawing the furniture or otherwise misbehaving, all I have to do is say “Jonah…does mommy have to play ‘Danny Boy’?” and he’s an instant angel

REdwolf,

If you have difficulty converting wav files to mp3 using your built-in Windows Sound Recorder (I did), download CDex from ZDNet.

It’s freeware and easy to use.

Jonah…Sandy’s cats named Jonah too. Is this a whistle thing?

Smooth, creamy, parting glass…mmmm, everyone please have a cyber pint here, on me. <(_)
