I think describing the “stuck together again gaping chasm” as a “repaired crack in the headjoint” is a bit disingenous .. that is one humdinger of a crack – and plain through the embouchure .. ouch. Someone blow too hard or something? ![]()
Ivory is notorious for cracking-how many ‘nach Meyer’ Ivory headed Flutes have we seen on E-Bay WITHOUT cracks?
I was lucky enough to pick up an ivory headed Piccolo, that was uncracked(but it did need a serious cleaning and total re-pad!).
It’s a very interesting Flute though (if you aren’t opposed to Ivory, but then it is an antique instrument after all).
The Northern Irish Flute player,James MacMahon was notable for playing an all Ivory Flute.
Anybody know what ivory sounds like?
We have Ivory instruments around the shop, and in Friedrich’s private (historical) collection. It sounds okay, nothing unusually special though, sort of bland and uninteresting to my ear, but that’s just me.
We used to make lots of Ivory instruments (still do on occasion - we have pre-ban Ivory that’s legal) and, infact, due to the way we do production, we have a surprising number of nearly completed all Ivory sopranino’s in stock, although I doubt they’re gonna fly off the shelves any time soon…

both buyer and seller are not longer registred to ebay…anyone know what happend?
The vendor probably died of shock at the final bid.
The purchaser has probably had his computer taken off him by his mother, or the security staff of the institution he is in.
Would anybody show any interest in such a flute if it were not ivory ?
