**review new prototype syns

About a week ago I went to my mailbox and found this amazing package from one of my favorite whistle makers. He had sent me a set of his new syn whistles and bodies. I opened up the package to find a new head and the following keys E,Eb,D,C,Bb,A. All of these whistles (bodies) fit on the same head. Here is my review:

All of the whistles have the key engraved at the top of the body along with the word “syn”

E Body: Great loud whistle, but not piercing like a susato. The bell tone and lower octave is very strong, but takes a bit more effort to hit a high a or b (I realize this is not the actual two notes, but the corresponding holes on a d whistle) when jumping from the lower octave, kind of like a chieftain. The whistle is completely in tune with itself (obviously it is tunable) and is the only whistle I have come across that has a spot on tuning cross fingering oxx ooo all of his bodies are this good with the cross fingering.

Eb body: This whistle is still loud, but not as much as the E. The lower notes are still very strong and it is easier to flip up to the higher range on this whistle. Once again, amazing tuning with itself.

D,C body: This along with the C are his best whistles. Well balanced amongst both octaves, easy to flip from the lower register to the top and these are both more mellow in sound than the two above. In fact, the lower the key goes the more quite the sound and the more mellow.

Bb body: I originally wanted this body because my generation just does not suit my needs. Has a wonderful mellow sound to it, spot on tuning, but starts sounding more like a re%&*^der. I can’t complain, a great whistle.

A body: Like he told me in his email, this really pushes the bore size and the bell tone takes less air to get a pure sound. Amazing tuning (it seems to be extremely consistent the lower the whistle).

I highly recommend syn’s whistles, I have gotten rid of many others (including high end whistles) and have stuck with his whistles.

Keep up the good work. I just can’t wait until his low whistles come out.

I wonder what the price would be to get a full set like that?

And what’s different in these, from the Original Syns?

Glauber, you dog, WhOA is the original syn!

Michael, you didn’t mention whether these are metal or wooden whistles. I’m assuming metal, because that’s most of what he’s making these days, but he does have some wooden ones out there, so I was just wondering.

Also, I’d just like to say how very, very jealous I am!
