replacement head for Gen Bb?

I killed the head on my Gen Bb in a tweaking extravaganza, and I’m contemplating the replacement options…what do people recommend?

Gary Humphries Retro-Fit Head. Really top notch. Makes your whistle like a CPVC Sindt. I like mine a lot. Do a search for raindog1970 and pm him.

I’ll strongly 2nd that! You’ll love it.

Haven’t tried that one but I have tried a Hoover and I like it. It’s softer and sweeter than the Gen head.

Sweetone head fits. Either D or C, I forget. Don’t know how in tune it will be.

If you really like the body of your Gen Bb and wouldn’t want to replace it, then you may want to email Barnes and Mullins (Maker of Generations) and request for a new mouthpiece. I did this before! I emailed them and (take note - the keyword here is REQUEST) request for a mouthpiece, just a mouthpiece because if youask for a new whistle, they’ll junk your request, just ask for a mouthpiece… this is much better than any other options I may say. just be persistent in asking and they’re more than willing to give… (they will send you)

I have a
Gen Bb with a Hoover whitecap…It is my favorite whistle. Sweet sound,a bit of chiff, low breath requirement..Best 30 dollars I ever spent on whistles.

I’ve been curious about the Humphrey retro-fit heads. How’s their volume?
I don’t need anything very loud, as only play whistle solo (prefering to play flute at sessions).

I have a retro-fit D head (not Bb). I’m not sure if they’re louder than a regular Generation head (at least a bit I think), but they are more focused and full sounding, which might make them sound louder.

P.S. Gary also has a nice clips-n-snips of King of the Faries using the Bb head.

I have one of Gary’s retrofit heads for Bb. It’s about as loud as an original Gen Bb. Much cleaner. Has chiff (breathiness). I recommend it. I have a tune on Clips posted with it: Green-eyed Lass in jigs and The Dear Irish Boy in slow airs.

The Sweetone mouthpiece needs some wrapping for it to fit. It sounds OK. Would rather have something other than a Gen.
