Well I’ve looked around quite a bit for some decent instructions on making chanter reeds for highland bagpipes and so far i haven’t found nothing (seems to me they are all secretive about highland bagpipe reed making). I’ve been wanting to make my own chanter reeds for quite a while. And some of the workshops for reed making are darn expensive, so expensive workshops like that are out of the question. So i was wondering is there anything out there for me to use to learn or anybody who could teach to make my own chanter reeds. And i don’t know a thing about what cane i would need and everything. I just want to learn to make them. And when i play my bagpipes i will know the chanter reed was made by me !

(i also got additional bagpipe chanter that’s made out of blackwood so far i haven’t found any good reeds for it so i also wanted to make my own)

I was wondering, does bamboo have the same properties as cane. They seem very similar.

I’ve seen uilleann pipe reeds made out bamboo that sound quite nice

Try the link that Nate Put up!I made my first border reed using this info from David Jones.Iam a pretty good ulleann reed maker ,but the highland reed was tough for me untill i found Mr Jones website.
