Recording Myself

I discovered 3 things:

  1. My ornamentation (mainly roles and cuts in this case) is better than I initially thought.

  2. I tend to pause too much between phrases.

  3. The crappy little mic on my mp3 player has issues with a high D whistle’s upper register. Unless I’m doing something wrong…maybe I’ll try putting it farther away from me next time…

I actually found recording myself very useful. I’ve done it a bit in the past, but always for a specific issue like rhythm a particular section. I’ve never done it just to see how I played and I found it very informative. It was also reassuring because I don’t seem to suck quite as much as I thought.

Critical listening is essential, no matter what you do within music.
