I’m in search of a C whistle…
Does anyone have any suggestions for the best bet (relatively) inexpensive C whistle?
Thanks!

If you really have a very good Generation, that would be worth keeping!
I’ve only got one C currently, it’s a feadog I bought used from a board member. He tweaked it and it’s decent. I’d be interested in trading but it’s my only C.
I suggest you look for music stores in your area that carry feadogs and see if you can give some a try. Some stores will allow it, others won’t…
I’d trade you my C Sweetone for the Bb Generation.
Walden,
I had a C Sweetone once, and it was junky. How’s yours?
Micah
Micah,
You might want to consider a Dixon tunable, I have one and like it. It doesn’t get much play, but that’s only because it’s competing with 2 overton low whistles, my Dixon reg-D, and a flute. But when the need or occasion needs the C whistle, the Dixon work well for me.
You might also try the Susato C. I had a set of Susato’s D,C,Bb that I recently parted with. I didn’t much care for the regular-D but the C was very nice. I think there is something about the Susato design and my taste in whistles that seems to meet and match up in thier C whistle. This is true for the one I had and several others I’ve tried.

the best c i’ve played, heard, or owned is a c by mack hoover. it is awesome. i’m not sure what your budget is, but i highly recommend mack’s whistles. he can make them soft or adjusted them for session play. it is one of my best whistles.
The Susato C is the best Susato,
in my opinion, and a good
C whistle. The Susato design
and materials work well
with the C, not shrill
upstairs, and it isn’t
expensive.

Is that the one you got at the fest last month? Gorgeous whistle. You should post a pic! I can host it if you need space.
Not exactly a cheap whistle, but my Sindt C is one of the best whistles I’ve ever played.
Thanks for all the info. Of course, a Sindt or Hoover would be nice, but I’ve already got a Hoover D on order.
Considering that the C whistle won’t get as much play as a D whistle, I don’t care to spend that much. A Susato or Dixon may just be the ticket…how are these volume-wise? I don’t need to provide free concerts for all my neighbors.
Thanks,
Micah

Fact that I’m willing to trade it for a generation ought to tell you something. ![]()
