Why do we have two Uilleann pipes forums? : Chiff and Fipple and the Uilleann Forum.
They appear to be run by the same persons so why two?
All the best,
Pat Sky

They are two separate forums, not run by the same person. The Uilleann forum was set up in response to ChiffnFipple dropping the forum due to silliness, which was later restored, but still quite over policed.
A bit of history…

Then why in the world are you here? Don’t you dislike being oppressed?
Three years ago, this C&F UP forum was closed for 3 days. Thank you.
Here’s my answer to your question.
A jewish man is washed up on a deserted island. He builds a temple and worships there for awhile. Then he builds another temple and worships there. When rescuers come, they ask him why he built two temples. “So, I can have one I wouldn’t be caught dead in.”
Chill brotha, It was just a question and answer, no reason to get your chiff or fipple in a bind.
I think this is still the No1 forum for pipers, ![]()
you’ll always get the guru’s who think they know it all, ![]()
they’ve got to have there own little corner you know,
we might can have a pow wow now about pipes without begginers being a bit shy in explaining any problems they might be having, reed problems are still the biggest headache for the beginner, along with bellow techique.
all the best. wait for it.
One difference is the Uilleann Forum has the Reeds and Pipemaking area. That is full of great information for makers, but is not of interest to everyone. Also the “Pipers Review” archive ('nuff said), and the “Pipes for Sale” area. The General Discussion kinda rocks too though their is overlap with here. ![]()
Don’t forget the NPU Forum.
Totaly agree with you guys, this will always be the No1 forum for pipers,
there is always a reedmaker or pipemaker on this forum that can give some advance on reed trouble & tuning tips to pipers having reed trouble, the thing is not to make the discussion so complicated, that a beginner or piper with a problem dos’nt get lost in it, there are pipers like, Peter Laban, Chris Bayley, Pat Sky, Sam L, Joseph Smith, Alan Burton, just to name but a few who have the experience to help with a pipers problem, some of the named above are also professional pipe & reed makers so they do know they stuff, there’s no need to go to any other forum?
this is the forum where it all began,
Let the guru’s live in there fantasy world forum stroking there reamers,
its all just a ploy to sell there pipes & products, Oh yes we know it all !
our pipes are the best, ![]()
there are two or three makers that has done nothing more than abuse these sites for nothing more than the purpose of selling there products a long with trying to gain advantage over other makers, I know this can not always be avoided by pipemakers when they contribute to the forum with help & advice, but a few makers have just taken the P-ss.
Don’t let a few! which have tried, ruin the No1 pipers forum, C&F is the No1.

Well, actually there was a forum already in existence that covered all this stuff already. David Daye’s Uilleann Pipe Mailing List. It had run it’s course by the time C&F started. It’s still going but the user friendliness of this forum has shadowed it. You can go there and still read the archived posts. Lot’s of good info there and it’s a little clump of history

Pea’s,
Pat.
Cheers for that Patrick,
I don’t mind being put right on the subject, some interesting stuff in there on Mr Dayes site thou,
and it seems you have the No2 site Patrick, you have some great info, history & pictures on pipes on your site which you have aquired, keep up the good work Patrick. all the best.
PJ the NPU is OK, but C&F is still the NO1 piping forum, there is plenty discussion going on here at the moment. all the best.

Uilliam.. gone fishing ![]()
Ha Ha, nice one Uilliam. all the best.
reed problems are still the biggest headache for the beginner
I think reeds are the biggest headache for all pipers. I attribute my baldness to reeds and my growing insanity to reedmaking

Well there you go Steve, I’m not to far behind you with the hair loss,
but some has grown back now,
since I learn’t to make reeds, you don’t seem to have any problem in getting some fine tunes out of that set of yours, thou! Steve, so you must be doing something right! seen you up on u-tube.
all the best.
PS. Steve hope you don’t mind, but I love listining to you playing jenny picking cockles on that lovely Alain Froment set.
The two sites, here and the Uilleann Pipe Forum, are great sources of info, resource material and the like in addition to being fairly user-friendly. In my own convoluted way of thinking (or not, as the case may be
), the more sites the merrier. ![]()

Hi Stew, I wish my hair would grow back, but its not looking likely. I used to have hair right down to the middle of my back many years ago…now I have a very short buzzcut.
Thanks for your kind words about the sound of my pipes. I work hard to try to keep them sounding nice…but its hard work sometimes. Glad you enjoy Jenny Picking Cockles…a grand tune ![]()
It sure is hard work Steve keeping a set in tune, especially at the moment with this warm humid weather were having, your Froment set sounds very nice to me, keep up the good work, you’ve got some nice recordings there on your site there Steve,
give us some more!
excellent stuff,all the best.
Told YA! C&F is the No1 site in every way for Uilleann piping…
I just hope it isn’t going to be loaded down with persons selling there pipes, a quick mention seems fine & OK and you can use your PM’s, but lets not have to much advertiseing, I’m not meaning to up set any of you guys here. all the best.
